you need to have a final destination in mind before consulting the map and organising trasport
A few years ago, I listened to a podcast on financial goals on YouTube, as I drove to the office (which at the time was about 180 miles from where I live). I wish I could remember who or where it was from and give the author the credit, becuase the starting points were profound and were a great help to me.
I’m passing them on here, because I think it’s important to base any activity on a clear understanding of where it is exactly that you want to go, and why. Without that, you may do the best work of which you’re capable, but not end up where you really wish to be.
There were three though-provoking questions, to clarify what’s really import to you, financially speaking. And if you’re anything like me, the answers will reveal that it’s probably not quite what you thought. Don’t rush this… take your time and give it as long as it needs, even if it’s a few days or even weeks. Until you’re clear on the answer to these, I’d recommend not starting. Once you’re sure, then you’ll know where you’re heading.
Question 1 – what would life look like if you had an unlimited amount of money?
What would you be doing? Who would you be with? Where would you live? etc
Question 2 – if you had only six months to live, what would you want to make sure you did?
Who would you see, what would you want to make sure was finished, or taken care of? How would you want to spend that time?
Question 3 – if you were going to die tomorrow, what would you most regret?
The answers to these questions will clarify what’s most important to you, and help form the basis of sound and meaningful financial goals.
I’m bookmarking this for future reference.
